Vendredi: Les Cinq Choses (My Friday Five)

Hubby et moi while dating in college.

1. I used to be somewhat comfortable with the French language (OK, I'll admit I majored in French in college), but I've lost almost all my knowledge of it. Quel dommage!

2. I love that my hubby happily goes along what makes me happy. I tell him "I'm busy helping the children," and then I vanish into the sewing room. He's happy, too. He vanishes into his computer room and putzes around with work stuff and solves computer-related puzzles. We're happy doing our parallel play. Sometimes I watch a Netflix movie while sewing. Double the pleasure (even though it slows my sewing progress way down)!

3. It's Friday evening, I'm home, and we are looking ahead to a weekend of lovely weather. Hooray!

4. I just finished reading two good books: Sarah's Key by Tatiana DeRosnay and Up High in the Trees by Kiara Brinkman. I am currently reading Moon Over Lake Elmo by Steve Thayer who happens to be the brother of my lovely friend, Beth! I am really enjoying the book so far.

5. My dad died in 2002. It hardly seems possible it was over seven years ago. I still dream about him now and then. I just did again last night. Usually after I dream about my dad, I feel at peace, like I've just spent some happy time with him or gotten a hug from him. Isn't that a nice gift?

Je parle francais un peu. Ca va? Ah, I wish more would come back to me! I start Gaelic in a few weeks through St. Paul Community Ed. Super excited about that. I just sorta tried Chinese through comm ed as well - didn't work so well. Extremely difficult - and the instructor seemed exasperated with us. A friend at Hennepin said he will help me with the tones and sounds, so I can better pronounce the names of the Chinese donors I work with (or should be working with but am too shy to contact them b/c I don't know how to say their names!).

I can't believe that it's been 7 years since your lovely Dad died and you challenged us to make quilts and donate them in his name. Time has surely flown since then.
Hugs jan mac

Hard to believe it's been 7 years...my mom passed on about the same time, I remember. Your son looks just like his dad!!!! Thinking of you and Kathleen.

What a great picture, and yay! for contented happy hubby's who let us sew!!

(My dad died in 2002, also. It stuns me how quickly the time has gone by, and I miss him everyday. I have only dreamed of him a few times, and they indeed felt like special gifts of him visiting me. Hope your dreams always stay sweet xo.)

I still dream of my Dad who has been gone 33 years. They're good dreams, good memories. 8-)

I like your comment about parallel play - Keith and I frequently spend time together but each engaged in our own pursuits...brunch out on the weekend is a favorite activity -- he gets his newspaper, I take my book and we thoroughly enjoy each other's company.

St. Patrick's Day is one that brings lots of thoughts about my dad. He's been gone 20 years now but you can imagine that with a name like Patrick McLaughlin, St Paddy's Day was always a favorite of his.
