Ugly Quilt

I've been trying to do some sewing, but I am so unmotivated due to having created an Ugly Quilt. What do you think... should I rip parts of it out and change my color scheme? Or should I go ahead and finish this thing and hope some kid likes it? Or is it mean to send off an Ugly Quilt and force some kid to find its redeeming qualities?

Tuesday's post was my book group that met at a wine bar. Only two of us showed up! We had brought along a zillion books to look at as possible choices on our list of Books to Read Next. One of my books had short essays, and each one ended with the words "it's worth pondering." The fact that those words ended every.single.essay. drove me crazy. I couldn't read the entries, because my brain was saying, "oh boy, here comes that darned 'it's worth pondering' that's going to ruin a good essay."

So that's why I used the phrase in Tuesday's post... sort of as a joke to myself. Not that I really needed help deciding which books to read. We came up with a good list. And I never have a shortage of books to choose from! Thank you for all your comments regarding choosing books! I appreciate my readers and comments!!!

This is soooo NOT an ugly quilt. There isn't any such thing. Too much labor and love goes in to a quilt for it to ever be considered ugly.

Keep up the beautiful work!

P.S. I'm so jealous quilter talent.

If you really don't like the quilt what about scattering a huge applique on the surface? say a line drawing of a huge flower or fish as a focal point? I've seen that technique used with great success -- a focal point that takes up the whole quilt surface quickly draws attnetion and the "busy" background adds to the fun instead of reading "ugly"...

WOW. My kids would LOVE that quilt. It totally looks like a fun kid quilt with those colors.

This quilt is not for YOU, it is for someone else. Someone else will love this quilt and it will keep them warm in more than one way. Get it finished and send it on its way.

I love Sara's comment (above). PUt a narrow inner border, then an interesting KIDS' wide border on it and it will be smashing!!! Whatever you put as an outer border will carry it off!

There is no such thing as an *ugly* quilt! I say finish it and someone, somewhere will fall in love with this beautiful quilt! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! :)

and you did *learn* from it what color combinations don't *work* for you...'it's worth pondering'

It may seem ugle to you but if you're oing to give it away why worry about it. Learn something new and put it on the quilt. How about some orange applique in the blue square susing Texture Magic from Superior Threads? You could make the shapes geometric like circles and triangles or a someone else suggested fish or some other animal shapes. Then when you quilt it, use bright orange thread and that will be a fun child's quilt when it's done.

That is so not ugly! I see lots of fun fabrics in this thing. And the colours are kid friendly! I say finish it and some kid will love it!

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure there is a kid out there who would love the quilt.

I don't think it's ugly at all!!!! I think it's awesome, but I love bright zingy colors.... I've made quite a few orange-green and orange-purple, and even a few orange-lime green quilts.

I would, however, use 2 borders to calm it if you're thinking it's ugly - maybe 1 thin, "stopper" border (I use 2 1/2-3"), then a 4 1/2-6" outer-- use maybe an orange (yellow? cream? or even whatever is directly opposite that orange on a color wheel) inner border, then dark (or royal) blue outer border.

Oh yeah, I found a 4 foot tall stuffed giraffe in a store window in Munich - I took a semi-crummy picture for you (I was on a bus) - I'll send it later if I remember!

Slap a great big kid friendly print on the back of that top and some kid will go nuts loving the quilt!

You didn't realize it but you have made a great boy's quilt. I have such trouble doing that because most of my fabrics have flowers. Your quilt is great!

I think it's nice - not ugly at all. Finish it off, as others said, and you will be happy, if only for the fact that it's over and done with! :-)
