Could You Eat This Cake?

This is a cake that was part of our pot luck at work... a Halloween-y cake, I guess. Would you be able to eat this? I could not! It looked way too real.

My Outdoorsy Saturday

Saturday was an outdoorsy day for me. First I went to the site of a Monster Dash run. Daughter was running the 10-mile race. Son-in-law ran the half marathon. I stayed for a little over two hours. Saw Son-in-law; he waved. I didn't see him in time to get a picture. Waited to see Daughter. I finally realized I was standing in the wrong place to see her. The ten-mile finish line was in a different place. Oh, well, it was a beautiful day, though a bit chilly. I was glad I had bundled up in wool sweater, layers of hats, and my winter boots.

Next, I headed to church where I dressed up as a bed and participated in the Trunk 'n Treat we hosted for the neighborhood and for our church kids. I couldn't use my trunk as it's in the shop for repairs, so I just used a table.

Here's an idea of how a Trunk 'n Treat trunk should look:

I had a craft item for the kids to participate in if they chose to. Almost every kid wanted to and found it fun. I was so pleased! Some kids even came back to make a second one. They made "quilts"... 2.5" squares glued onto a grid that I printed on cardstock. Some used markers, but most used the fabric squares. Some worked really hard on theirs, a few rushed through but still enjoyed it. I very much enjoyed watching them, and I took pictures of each kid with their quilts. I will share them with you here, for the joy of having had fun with the energy of all those kids! (The first little guy was a tad too young for my craft activity.. isn't he so cute??)

After all that time outside on a windy, chilly day, I was pretty well chilled to the bone, though strangely I didn't feel cold. At home I warmed up my bones and took a little nap. Husband had spent the same amount of time at his parents' house, helping them re-organize some stuff in their storage room. We got home at the same time and both napped.

Happy Halloween!

The Costume That Wasn't

Last week I showed you the loopy-doopy scarf I bought at our church boutique. I told you it would be my Halloween costume, hinting that it would reveal something... well, here is how I had intended to wear my scarves:

This costumne reveals some of my pant legs. Nothing scandalous, if you were thinking that's what I meant.. no way!

I work in a video call center, and we have to look professional in our video view. But the video does not show our legs, so we decided to have a Fancy Feet contest on Halloween. I went to work and saw that very few people were participating. A couple people were wearing slippers, and that's all I saw.

I felt too conspicuous walking around in these flashy leggings, so I took them off and just wore my mismatched socks, shoes, and some old political buttons.

Turns out I was the chicken in the group. I should have gone with my original plan. I forgot that our place is open 24/7 and that some of the costumes had appeared during other shifts when I was not there. Pictures were taken of them all, and prizes bestowed on winners. Since mine ended up being blah, I only made it to Honorary Mention (nice words for "participation prize" which equalled nothing).

I'm not saying these fancy scarves on my legs would have been a winner, but just that I ended up losing by falling prey to peer pressure.

Just thought I should finish this story that I started when I hinted at my "revealing" Halloween costume made of scarves.

Exhausted

Whew! Another year, another church turkey dinner and boutique done. It's always pretty exhausting. But fun, too.

Friend B. and I run the boutique. We never know from year to year what things might sell, and also it is hard to decide on prices for the items. But I think we did OK income-wise, and we had a lot of shoppers and pretty things to look at. It never all sells (wouldn't THAT be a miracle??) but we have places to donate some of the unsold items. This year's hot item was the loop-dee-loop scarves, like this. I bought two of them:

I am going to use my scarves for my Halloween costume next week. Just wait 'til you see it. It'll be very revealing.............of something..... are you curious as to what it will reveal???? I'm not telling!

I'm too exhausted to talk any more, so I'm going to bed. Nighty-night!

My Scary Halloween Adventure

As you can see, we went all out on the Halloween decorations.

This creature's hand suddenly came up from the inside of this chair! It was all creepy and wiggly and very scary! Someone stabbed it with a stick, and it stopped moving.

Then there were these two very frightening Church Ladies. They tried to push candy and cookies and sticks dipped in chocolate on us, but you just never know what might really be inside those things. One can never be too careful.

I spent my Halloween afternoon watching the Vikings football game (scary enough right there) while knitting a sock. The sock is for this one-legged monster that I know.......

And the evening just got worse as monsters and ghosts and baseball players rang our doorbell and demanded that we hand over candy. Luckily, we had plenty of candy on hand, and they even liked it. Whew! I'm glad I survived.. it was really a horrific day and night. It didn't stop 'til we turned off all the lights, including our electric jack-o-lantern. Weird.
