Enjoying the Cold Weather

Yesterday I was really bummed, but I’m much better today. Thank you for all your thoughtful comments. This is what happened to cheer me up today: it’s freezing, and we’re in the middle of a snowstorm!

Isn’t that weird for a cheer-me-up thing? Well, a couple of students came to our office this morning and were NOT well dressed for the weather. We were able to outfit them with our extras.. we keep coats, hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves here for our students who don’t have proper clothing. Amazingly, here in Minnesota, there are a lot of families who can’t afford these items! These things are necessities here!

Anyway, I felt very happy being able to help these two get warm outdoor gear on and to see them trudge out to the city bus stop, well bundled and warm.

I guess it really does work to help one-on-one, on a personal level. It has given me back my positive attitude and joy in doing the little things. It also helped that the students were so receptive and cute and happy to get the stuff. Our students are the best!!

P.S. Yesterday I fell on ice and hurt my back, but that hasn't altered my happy mood today. I'm sore, but functioning just fine, thank you.

C, sorry to hear you fell and hurt your back. I'm glad you are doing okay. Check my blog for a punch recipe that might help that. ;-)
But I'm with you on helping face to face/one on one.

i have to say that waking up to a foot of snow has greatly improved my outlook....I adore winter and it's just not winter unless the ground is covered and frozen in a blanket of snow....

sorry to hear about your spill....and hoping that you recover quickly.

Would you believe that here in the east it was in the high 60s today, balmy! It breaks my heart to see kids that can't afford to be warm. I remember one boy came to school one day without a coat and it was freezing. I asked where his coat was and he said my brother got to it first. They shared a coat!

It's heartbreaking to think that children do not have the warm clothing they need - poverty is all around us - not just in third world countries. I have stopped giving presents to the children of my well off parents and make donations to charities in their names instead - they seem to understand and appreciate the gesture. We had a snowfall yesterday as well so it looks very Christmassy out. Sorry you had a fall - the older I get the more I dread icy weather.
