I Won! I Won!

I am so excited and amazed! My quilt won First Place in the Viewers' Choice vote at our recent quilt show!!! This is the first time I have ever won anything through my guild shows or challenges! It feels great!!! I won a $25 gift certificate at a local quilt shop. Fun, fun, fun!

Here's my winning quilt. The books are made from selvage edges with fabric titles that sound like book titles. The 2nd picture shows a close-up, sideways view of some of the "books."

Now that I have won a guild quilt prize, I can die happy!

Here is another thing that I am celebrating: it, too, is amazing! This post at my humble little blog is POST #1600! Can you believe it?? I have been posting my thoughts and ramblings about quilts, and even book reviews, since January 4, 2006. Who knew I'd still be happily posting away in 2014!?

To celebrate, I am going to do my usual Blog Celebration. Please leave a comment here. Answer this question: what do you enjoy about reading other people's blogs? For each blog comment, I plan to donate $1.00 to my favorite charity, Ampersand Families. Please make me donate a LOT to Ampersand Families! And thanks for reading.

Wow Carol. I can see why you won the viewer's choice award. This is a very interesting item. I have heard of salvage quilts but have never done one myself. Love it!

Cheers!
I'd forgotten that the "books" were selvages. Clever! Love that quilt--I can see why it got viewers' choice. And I like your way of celebrating! (When people celebrate by offering fabric, I never comment because I have enough, but I'll help you spend your money. :-) ) 1600 is a lot of posts!

I love your blog!! It is a great way to keep up with what's happening in your world.

Congratulations on your win! It really is a beautiful quilt. What I love about reading other people's blogs is that I can read about flowers somewhere else in the world when there is snow covering everything here. I can see beautiful textile arts because people are still making beautiful things. I can find places to donate knitting where it is needed. I can find new recipes. I can see familiar places through another blogger's photographic perspective.

Carol, After you stopped posting on CDP, I have been unaware that you had this blog, but I have been following you on Facebook. Now that I know about this one, I can now be more aware of your activities!

This quilt is spectacular and it is obvious why you won. . . you are a talented woman. I would love to own it but. . . Treasure it because it is unique and beautiful.

Why do I like blogs? During the time I have been posting and reading other blogs, I have learned a good deal about many things from the people who share their knowledge, information and humor. In addition, I have met several wonderful people from all over the world, many who will remain cyberfriends but others whom I have met personally. Blogging is both educational and fun!!

Congratulations, that is a great honor!!

I like reading others' blogs because I get a taste of lives lived all over the world, nature photos that I might never have seen otherwise, photos of quilts with great color schemes and design ideas that brighten my day and let me start the morning with a smile.

Congratulations - I can see why they voted Favorite!!! Very clever.

I enjoy hearing words of wisdom that energize my sometimes lazy habits. Of course the quilts are all stunning - that goes without saying.

Congratulations! I think you deserved to win, your quilt is wonderful. I like reading about what a blogger is quilting or working on, little bits of the their life, humor, recipes and tutorials. Successes and failures.

Thank you so much for all your comments, everyone. Some of you are "no reply" so I couldn't respond personally. I appreciate my visitors and readers.

Curtmadime: it is not book fabric, it is made from the selvage edges of fabric. The edges usually have words printed on them such as "designed by Carol for BlahBlah Fabrics" or sometimes the fabric has a name, like a painting has a name. That's when I cut that off and use it, because it sounds like a book title. So all the books in this quilt are cut from the edges of fabrics. These were very small pieces that I sewed together. Labor intensive, but I'm glad I did it.

I just love your quilt. Congratulations on your prize.
I like to read blogs for a look in into other people's thoughts and lives. I learn so much, am inspired, and "meet" people all over the world I'd love to visit in real life.

An absolutely delightful and beautiful quilt! I have over 1,000 blogs in my primary blog reading list and I try to visit each and everyone as often as I can simply because I enjoy the connection and inspiration from others.

Awesome!! The quilt is great! I love reading blogs where people share who they really are--not just what they want people to see.

Congratulations on your win, I love the whole idea of the bookshelves, with other favorite things added along with the books.
Reading peoples blogs is sometimes like having coffee with a friend and learning something new, sharing a laugh, or a cry, seeing the world through their eyes, the list goes on.
