Pet Postcard Project

I saw this posted at Facebook and went for it. The Pet Postcard Project asks for postcards showing pictures of your pet. Various pet food companies sponsor projects, and the number of postcards received determines which project gets the most free donations of food for animals in shelters. The project they are doing now is pitting dogs against cats. Let's have the cats win! Dogs get all the attention! Time for some cat love.

Look at the project details here. There are a few simple rules that your postcards need to follow.

I made this postcard showing our cat, who is the most scared-of-everything Scaredy Cat in the world:

Here is what he thought of my entry:

Turns out he is smarter than I am, because it's past midnight, and I should be sleeping, too. Nighty-night!

Please Go to Claremont, California

Remember the Mail Art project that was going on at Prison Library Project? It is a fundraiser for the program that sends books to prison inmates all over the country. A few bloggers and I sent in some mail art. Here are some pictures from their show, which is on display right now as we speak!

I can see my quilted postcard in this photo. I feel like a little kid looking for mommy in the audience and waving at her from the choir risers.

Who knew a person could send a shoe through the mail?? There is the proof; those postmarked shoes can be yours, if the bid is right!

These are all being sold via silent auction. The final bidding party is on Friday, November 2. Hence my plea for you to go to Claremont, California. You can place a bid on one of these art works and go home with a cute item and with a warm heart for having helped a good cause.

Prison Library Project

As you know, I love books and love to read. I also like to support projects that encourage reading. For that reason I sometimes send donations to the Prison Library Project. You can read about it here.

They try to fulfill book requests from prisoners and try to support prisoners' efforts to better themselves through reading. Many are working on GEDs, for example, or are trying to improve their knowledge of English. The requests often include various dictionaries, reference books, or inspirational books on how to re-route one's life. I'm all for learning and working on self while in prison!

Recently I found out that the Prison Library Project is doing a fundraiser. They are asking for Mail Art -- art which is actually sent through the mail and will then be sold for their fundraising efforts. I don't know who their customers are or whether anyone would want to buy what I created, but here it is. I sat up late one night, until about 2:30 AM, working on this.

It's about the size of 4 postcards.. I started out wanting just to send one fabric postcard, but it grew. I still need to get the backing stuff that turns it into a mailable product.

If anyone is interested in sending some Mail Art, please click on the Postmarked 2012 button I added to my sidebar. You'll probably have to scroll down a bit to find it. It should be linked up with the Postmarked 2012 information. At that site they also post pictures of the art as they receive it. The examples so far are fun and inspirational! Deadline to get your art to them (in California) is Sept 30, 2012.
