Knitting: the Portable Craft

I used to knit now and then. I like knitting; I am just not very good at it. I can only do straight objects like a scarf or a baby blanket. At least so far.

Since taking up quilting, I have been envious of knitters whose projects are so easily portable. They're great for working on at meetings, kids' soccer games, waiting in line at the doctor's office, and while watching the Olympics.

This is the scarf that I had messed up; I had to stop until Daughter could help me get back on track. She did that, so I was back in business and finished the scarf Saturday night while watching TV. (Red for Valentine's Day.)

I'm jazzed about knitting now and am going to work on more knitting projects. They're easy to carry around and work on while I watch whatever catches my fancy in the Olympics. Maybe I'll even challenge myself to branch out to something other than just a rectangle!

What do you like to do while watching the Olympics?

  1. first of all...nice finish of the scarf! second.. I don't do anything when watching the Olympics but to lay on the couch and enjoy! I sort of zone out to the music and commentators...it is just peaceful to me!

Yea!!!! Way to go! You did the red scarf. I love it. That is cool with an exponent of 100!!! I'll be knitting through the Olympics - natcherly! But in my mind, I will stick a triple Lutz on the ice, fly off the ski jump, score the winning goal, set an Olympic record in the biathalon, and be the one to blow out the flame on the cauldron . . .

  3. I don't have time to watch the Olympics this year, but if I did, I'd be working on my cross stitch. I love my cross stitch because of it's portability too! Sadly, I can't take my scrapbooking with me everywhere I go. :(

  4. Nice scarf! I am envious of portable projects too. During the opening ceremonies I kept dashing upstairs to my sewing room during the commercials and parade of nations, but missed some good parts doing that. Knitting is a hobby I put away years ago and it may never return. But rug-hooking or needle punch, that may take hold...

  7. That scarf is BEAUTIFUL...!!! It's my favorite color.

I hope you are enjoying watching the Olympics, and getting a good view of my city. Vancouver is beautiful, isn't it?
